Marginal tax calculator
Income in, bands in — the tax on each slice out, plus the effective rate you actually pay and the marginal rate the next unit faces. Edit the bands to your own country and watch the shape of a progressive system.
Progressive tax systems stack income into bands and tax only the slice inside each one — which is why a raise can never reduce take-home pay, and why your marginal rate (the top band you touch) always exceeds your effective rate (total tax divided by total income). This tool runs that arithmetic on your numbers, on your device. The mechanics behind the maths are in the marginal-tax-rates guide; the retirement decisions the marginal rate prices are in the retirement guide. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is stored or sent to BRYME.
How to read the output
The table shows each band your income reaches: what was taxed inside it and the tax that slice produced. The totals give the two rates that get confused: the effective rate (everything you paid, over everything you earned) and the marginal rate (what the next unit of income faces). The default bands are illustrative only — every country’s real bands, allowances and thresholds differ and change; load your own from your revenue service’s published tables to make the numbers meaningful. This is arithmetic, not tax advice, and results are not guaranteed.
