The order, and why it is that order
The Premier League separates teams level on points in this sequence: goal difference, then goals scored, then the head-to-head record (points, then goal difference, then away goals in those matches), and if everything is still level, a play-off match at a neutral ground. Other competitions differ — UEFA's club competitions put head-to-head first, LaLiga and Serie A use their own orders — so always check which rulebook your table lives under; this tool runs the English one.
