How to find international writing opportunities
Find paid markets beyond your home country without falling for scams.
International opportunities can pay better, but they come with extra things to check.
Look for markets that explicitly welcome writers where you live. BRYME records which publications are open to African and diaspora writers, and which are not.
Check the eligibility carefully. “International submissions welcome” is not the same as “open to writers in every country.” Some markets restrict who can apply, and some are region-specific.
Understand pay and exchange. A rate in dollars or euros is not automatically better once conversion and transfer costs are considered. Note the currency and how payment is made.
Use only official channels. International submissions go through the publication's own guideline, form or email — never through a third party promising to pitch on your behalf.
Beware of anything asking you to pay. A legitimate publication does not charge writers to be considered, and it does not promise publication for a fee.
