How to submit a freelance article
From reading the guidelines to sending the finished piece the right way.
Submitting a freelance article is where many writers stumble over boring details, and details matter.
Read the submission instructions to the end. The guideline tells you whether they want a pitch or the full article, the word count, the format and the channel.
Format it the way they asked. Some want a docx; some want text in an email; some use a form. Do not guess when the answer is in the guideline.
Attach exactly what is required. A cover note or clips if asked. Do not add a long cover letter if they did not ask for one.
Use the official channel. An email, a form, or a submission portal from the publication — never an invented address.
Track and confirm. Note the date you sent it and, if you can, confirm receipt. If there is no stated response time, it is reasonable to follow up after a couple of weeks.
