About this tool

How to use the filler word finder.

What it does. Highlights filler words and hedges - the just, really, very and actually cushions that sneak into drafts.

How to use it. Paste a draft and work through the flagged words one by one. Do not delete blindly - sometimes the filler is doing tonal work. Cut it when the sentence survives without it, which is most of the time.

Why it matters. Filler is written in first drafts and forgotten by the second read. A mechanical list finds every one; your judgement decides which few earn their place.

Your data. The tool runs entirely in your browser - text you paste never leaves the page, and nothing is uploaded to a server.

Good to know

Dialogue is exempt: characters say just and really the way people actually talk. Apply the edits to narration first and leave voices alone.

Where this fits

Analysis tools put numbers where a writer's blind spots live: the sentence you always write, the word you lean on, the reading level you drifted into. The number is never the verdict - it is the pointer. Read each flag in its sentence, keep what is deliberate, fix what is not.
