How to use the readability score.
What it does. Scores your text with the Flesch reading-ease formula - 0 to 100, higher is easier - and shows the words-per-sentence and syllables-per-word behind the score.
How to use it. Paste a section and read the score with its grade band. General web writing sits comfortably around 60-70; if a piece lands far lower, look first at the longest sentences and the heaviest words.
Why it matters. The score is not a verdict on intelligence - it is a measure of friction. Matching friction to your audience is what clear actually means.
Your data. The tool runs entirely in your browser - text you paste never leaves the page, and nothing is uploaded to a server.
Good to know
Score paragraphs, not whole documents - a 900-word piece mixing an intro and a technical section averages two different audiences into one misleading number.
Where this fits
Analysis tools put numbers where a writer's blind spots live: the sentence you always write, the word you lean on, the reading level you drifted into. The number is never the verdict - it is the pointer. Read each flag in its sentence, keep what is deliberate, fix what is not.
