About this tool

How to use the remove extra spaces.

What it does. Collapses runs of spaces and tabs down to a single space while leaving your line breaks exactly where they are.

How to use it. Paste the text and copy the result. Use it on drafts assembled from messages and notes, where double spaces accumulate; paragraphs keep their shape and only the horizontal mess goes.

Why it matters. Double spaces survive every proofread done by eye. Collapsing them mechanically is faster and cannot miss one.

Your data. The tool runs entirely in your browser - text you paste never leaves the page, and nothing is uploaded to a server.

Good to know

Tabs count as spaces here, which is usually what you want for prose. Code and tables are a different animal - indentation is meaningful there, so keep this tool away from it.

Where this fits

Formatting tools are the honest kind of tidy: they change nothing you said, only how it is carried. Run them before proofreading, not after - there is no sense polishing text a cleanup pass is about to reshape, and a clean base makes every later check mean what it says.
