About this tool

How to use the text sorter.

What it does. Sorts the lines of your text alphabetically, ascending or descending, discarding empty lines.

How to use it. Put one item per line - names, references, list entries - paste, choose a direction, and copy the sorted result. It is the quick way to alphabetise a bibliography, a glossary or a contact list.

Why it matters. Editors notice an unsorted list. Sorting takes seconds and quietly signals that the details were handled.

Your data. The tool runs entirely in your browser - text you paste never leaves the page, and nothing is uploaded to a server.

Good to know

Sorting is case-sensitive the way dictionaries are - capitalised entries sort before lowercase ones. Normalise the case first if your list mixes both and the order looks wrong.

Where this fits

Formatting tools are the honest kind of tidy: they change nothing you said, only how it is carried. Run them before proofreading, not after - there is no sense polishing text a cleanup pass is about to reshape, and a clean base makes every later check mean what it says.
